Sophie Gatacre gave a superb performance last night
in her one woman Comedy Drama Play.
To an appreciative audience she held her audience
in rapt attention as she acted her multi role high class Chelsea lady
tying to make ends meet after her husband leaving her for his secretary.
A superb mixture of differing emotions, laughter, sadness and
suggestive telephone conversation.
Her sexiest voice and interactions with the audience create
a highlight theatrical experience gaining prolonged applause.
A fringe event not to be missed with an additional incentive of a bottle of Mouton Cadet wine

If the title doesn’t give it away, the first scene certainly does.
Straddled across a reversed chair wearing a cowboy hat, Samantha seductively whispers like a Madame from
the Wild West making innuendo’s such as “Do you want to put your gun in my holster?”
Yes, Samantha’s hotline is a sex line.
Sophie Gatacre’s one woman show portrays a formerly affluent housewife trying to earn money
now she is no longer being supported by her adulterous husband. Drinking heavily between and
during calls to and from all and sundry, Samantha teases the audience with her,
sometimes hilarious other times cringing, commentary of sexual euphemisms, adopting several saucy characters
including cowgirl, girl being rescued by a fireman and a nun –
for the clichéd Catholic Priest who is an apparent regular caller.
Though Gatacre thrusts a lot of energy into the character of Samantha, we never got a sense of who she really is.
This was particularly evident in a phone call to a neighbour which contradicted itself at every corner.
As a consequence there is confusion as to Samantha’s motivation, and alas,
the play doesn’t recover by the time we reach the climax (quite literally) at the end.
At times the dialogue is very amusing and Gatacre’s best moments come through her interaction
with the audience which she pulls off with the grace of a talented stand up comedian.
So convincing in her portrayal of a strict school teacher,
the audience feel compelled to respond to her Gestapo-esque questioning as though they were naughty pupils.
Samantha’s Hotline was credited with rave reviews from the Edinburgh Festival
during the summer and will be performed at William IV in Kensal Green, London
on Tuesday 2
nd and Thursday 23rd December 2010.

Sophie Gatacre is an accomplished comedy actress and writer,
who has been touring London and Edinburgh since 2009
with her one woman comedy drama ‘Samantha's Election Hotline’ -
a two-act play about a Chelsea lady whose husband has left her
and in the midst of the recession she turns to telephone sex to earn an income.
Sophie takes the audience on a hilarious journey as her character makes
her clients believe that they are either a Cowboy, MP, Priest or Fireman.
This is in stark contrast to her home life,

SAUCY MPS and greedy bankers can still be seen spending
their ill-gotten gains in a witty new satire written and performed by an actress
who is determined to reinvent herself.
Sophie Gatacre, who lives in Westbourne Park,
recounts her playful comedic take on the excesses of modern life and the fall from grace
of a 'Chelsea lady' whose husband has left the family home.
In Sophie's creation, Samantha's Hotline:
A One Woman Comedy Show,
she plays a raunchy alter ego who, as the recession bites,
entertains stray men callers with her lewd telephonic services....
